James, having the sub-sites also have http enables is a little more challenging. The reason why is that in order for https to work without trouble you'll need a separate IP address per domain. To do that you'd have to add more than one IP to the original domain name and in your DNS on the secondary domain point to that IP. However, Dreamhost doesn't allow you to add more than one IP address per domain. So you'd probably have to move to another host that gave you a little more flexibility. However, if you just want security and are not so worried about the whether or not your site *appears* to be secure, you can just turn on HTTPS. I use this method for authenticating a couple of sites. Not great, but better than nothing.

William - You do need the unique IP. Otherwise, Dreamhost doesn't know what to do with the request when they receive it. I believe that for shared IP's there isn't a default site, whereas for a unique IP the default site is the one set in the Panel with that IP. So, when the Dreamhost server receive a request coming from some mapped domain that you have pointed to the unique IP, the server passes the request to the default site since Dreamhost doesn't recognize the domain. At that point, WP takes over and responds with the appropriate domain if it recognizes the domain, otherwise WP will show the primary site in the network. Hope that helps!

Hi Sam,

Thanks for the information. Is unique IP required for Domain Mapping to work?

I have tried the plugin and add an A record, but dreamhost is showing

bad_httpd_conf

Best regards,

William
